James Cawley

Mr. Cawley is a celebrated Fintech executive. Previously, Mr. Cawley served as CEO of BGC Partner’s Swap Execution Facility (“SEF”). BGC Partners (Ticker: BGCP) is affiliated with Cantor Fitzgerald and is a market leader of securities and derivatives execution globally with offices in 25+ market centers. Mr. Cawley joined BGC SEF in 2014 where he successfully built an electronic trading franchise, growing revenue, adding liquidity providers, new products and key institutional customers. Mr. Cawley left BGC SEF in February 2017.

In 2009, Mr. Cawley founded Javelin, one of market’s first SEFs for trading interest rate swaps. At Javelin, Mr. Cawley pioneered electronic limit orderbooks and request for quote execution for swaps. Mr. Cawley also filed the industry’s first MAT (“Made Available to Trade”) request with the CFTC requiring mandatory execution of interest rate swaps on SEFs.

In helping pioneer the SEF space, Mr. Cawley advocated in Washington DC for more liquid markets. He helped found the Swaps & Derivatives Market Association (”SDMA”), an industry trade group with 20+ members including Jefferies, BNP Paribas, and Newedge. As SDMA Chairman, James testified three times before US Congress and partnered with various constituencies including bank dealers, hedge funds, and principal trading firms to help shape the government’s derivatives reform policy. Mr. Cawley’s SEF entrepreneurship is grounded by core derivative sales & trading experience from Salomon Brothers, Lehman Brothers and Bank of America. James is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
